Description

Volume 8 in the unofficial Loft Classics series that covers some of the tracks that David Mancuso used to play at The Loft in New York.

On the A side we get the extended mix of Wood, Brass & Steel’s Funkanova. Originally released at a shorter length in 1976 on the Wood, Brass & Steel LP. The disco group disappeared after the release of that LP and bassist Doug Wimbish and guitarist Skip McDonald would later become members of the Sugarhill studio band. Funkanova has since been edited by Mr K, Kenny Dope, and Jamie 3:26, reworked by KON, and was sampled by The Black Science Orchestra on New Jersey Deep, by Terrance Parker on Love’s Gpt Me High (Tribute Mix) and by DJ Sneak on Funky Enuff.

The label lists Funkanova as being 8:15 long and it has been credited to Mr K. The track in the YouTube player is not the same version. The Mr K 12″ Edit is not on YouTube.

On the B side we get the percussive gem that is Sweet Potato Pie – Hot Disco Night (Are You Ready). Again this is listed as an extended edit that can’t be found anywhere else but on this 12″. It’s a shorter version that is the YouTube player that was released in 1978. There is a slow version and a faster version. The one on this record is the faster and better version.

Finally we have the Breakdown Mix of El Coco’s Delicado. The original if this was released in 1975. And yes you have guessed it, it’s another edit that is exclusive to this 12″!
