Description
London-based duo U-BEND continue their run of mischievous club tools, working from a scene that tends to prize odd pressure points and late-night instinct. Their releases often move between tight rhythmic sketches and heavier mutations and this new pair follows the same line, though with a clearer sense of shape. You can hear them leaning into the edges of acid and percussion as they use subtle changes in tone to hurl the tracks forward. ‘Wu Han Clang’ opens out with a steady chug, with its acid line wobbling in and out of focus as the drums keep a firm centre. ‘Grandma’ moves into darker ground, the percussion circling like it is testing the room for weak spots. Together, the two tracks show how far the duo can stretch their minimal framework without losing their grip on the dancefloor.
