Description

Warehouse Find! Greg Wilson needs little in the way of introductions, a stalwart of both the British 80’s Electro-Funk scene and the disco/edit movement to boot.

Release #16 sees Greg make a welcome return to KAT after his previous outing way back in 2007, and, again, his diverse music taste comes to the table to delight.

First up is ‘All The Riches’, a downtempo beauty that’s been pulling no punches in the clubs in his DJ sets and causing somewhat of a stir. Originally out in 2004 and produced by none other than Dr Dre this is what Greg is all about, identifying great hooks and grooves and editing them in his trademark way to ensure they work on the dance floor.

On the flip we have ‘I Love You More Than You Love Me’, originally released late in ’89. This is an 11 minute monster of a track that most will recognize, maybe not instantly, but wait for those strings to drop. Again, Greg brings the best out of the 4 minute original as he stretches it out and re-arranges it to ensure the party does not stop!

Without giving too much away, the track is a writing collaboration between New Order’s Bernard Sumner, The Smiths’ Johnny Marr and both Pet Shop Boys (although only Neil Tennant was credited on the original release), with Tennant providing the backing vocals and Sumner doing the main vocals. In a 2021 interview, Marr stated that Chris Lowe did work on the track, citing the bassline as his work and also that he played the synth bass-line.

Copies have sold on the Cogs for up to £35 for a copy graded as VG.

Notes: Record is brand new unplayed. The vinyl has been graded as VG+ because both sides have several light surface marks that look to be superficial and should not affect play. It is a release from 2012 that was issued in one of those bleached white card disco sleeves and I think the marks are from the inside of the sleeve touching the vinyl for 10+ years. Price marked down to reflect that it has the surface marks. Photo supplied on request.
