Description
When it comes to proper disco First Choice’s Let No Man Put Asunder is high on the list of many peoples favourite ever jams. It is a classic of the early dance scene that got hammered everywhere from the Warehouse to the Paradise Garage and remains in a class of its own decades later..
The original mix is featured on the 1977 Delusions album. The 1979 Walter Gibbons Disco Madness Mix was the first remix to circulate. But it was the next set of remixes that came out in 1983 that elevated the song to the top of the dance charts; Shep Pettibone’s 8-minute long vocal/instrumental/acapella suite is the most famous of those mixes and it’s that mix we have here on the A side. It was originally backed by separate vocal and instrumental versions by Frankie Knuckles. Shep Pettibone’s classic remix is from a time when proper songwriting and musicianship defined house and disco.
On the B side we are treated to the highly sought after “unreleased” Ron Hardy edit that is more uptempo, with hissing hi hats cutting through the funky rhythms and loopy drums. A pioneer who could turn Disco into House with his reel-to-reel edits. Say no more.
