Description

Finally available again on a 7″ – two essential disco and soul cuts from Silvia Striplin originally released in 1980. Produced by Roy Ayers on his Uno Melodic label.

Sylvia Striplin was a New York-based jazz, soul and R&B vocalist. During the late 1970s, Sylvia became a member of Aquarium Dream and worked with funk, jazz, R&B, and soul vibraphonist Roy Ayers in his group Ladies of the Eighties and recorded one album with each group. Ayers signed Sylvia to his Uno Melodic record label where she recorded an album “Give Me Your Love” from which this 7″ is taken. Though Striplin never attained mainstream success, her sweet voice is instantly recognized by devout fans of jazzy R&B and those who made up England’s ‘rare groove’ scene of the early 80’s and 90’s.

A-Side – “Give Me Your Love”
An uptempo disco groover for the more discerning dancefloor. Sylvia’s glorious vocals float over a sumptuous uptempo Roy Ayers track. Sampled by Armand Van Helden, Deepdown and Madd Rapper.

B-Side – “You Can’t Turn Me Away”
A soul breakbeat classic. Deep downtempo business, this shows Roy Ayers at the height of his powers and Sylvia more than does the track justice. Beautiful! The instantly recognisable bassline was sampled by Notorious BIG/Junior Mafia on ‘Get Money’. Also sampled by Naughty By Nature and Backstreet Boys.

Tracklist:
A – Give Me Your Love (3:23)
B – You Can’t Turn Me Away (2:59)
