Really nice dubby chuggy gems that remind me of Bill Brewster and the more electronic side of nu disco. The kind of tracks that sneak up on you then whack you around the head with their brilliance.
Jakarta based producer Jonathan Kusuma has kept himself plenty busy running the space.rec and Akamady labels, not to mention releasing heavyweight curveballs on labels like CockTail d’Amore and Love On The Rocks. He’s in fine fettle on this new drop for Homesick, delivering two reworks of unnamed jams that get twisted to his deviant disco vision with aplomb.
“Strata” has a nervy energy with a subtle rave undercurrent and plenty of exotic frills on top that makes for a thrilling ride. “Why” has a more overtly synth-powered bombast, but it’s no less brooding and seductive in its particular strain of dancefloor dynamism.
