Whenever I hear decent 2-Step my mind goes straight back to 1998. I was in Birmingham with Watson and we’d been down to DJ for some new friends we’d met in Manchester who lived in the midlands. The guy that had booked us was called Tony and he was proper sound and a total party head. Somehow during the night we ended up at this party that was being held in a disused bank. It was dark and crowded and I remember they were playing some of the best 2-Step I’d ever heard. Not poppy, it was proper underground tackle. I can’t remember how long we stayed for but the memory of the sound of proper UK Garage and the randomness of the venue always comes to mind whenever I hear great 2-Step such as this.
