French Disco maestro Dimitri From Paris’ Le Edits imprint returns for it’s fifth special release, bringing those lucky enough to snag a copy, 2 beautifully executed lovingly reworked classics.
Hot on the heels of the previous releases (most of which are now highly sought after and collectable) Dimitri is back once more and he’s proving that ‘quality over quantity’ (no pun intended given the probable rarity). When you buy a Le Edits release, you know you are holding something quite rare in your hands!
Le Edits No.5 sees the ultimate disco diva step into the picture, a truly inspirational and legendary vocalist whose name is known across the musical galaxy – Chaka Khan! Any self-respecting fan of Soul, Funk, Disco and beyond will undoubtedly have a few of her records in their collection. Two all-time classics, penned by Disco legends Ashford & Simpson, get the DFP touch this time around.
The world-conquering dancefloor anthem ‘I’m Every Woman’ takes up the A-side of this release. A favourite with everyone from die hard disco lovers to the secretary at the office party. This huge track gets a new lease of life in true Le Edits fashion – respectfully reworked and rearranged from the master tapes – the label brags “you’ve never heard it like this before!”.
On the flip, Dim treats us to a more underground, rare slice of Chaka with the epic stylings of the mighty ‘Clouds’. A true cult classic for the heads that know. A bonafide Paradise Garage anthem. We get to hear the incredible arrangements and strings refreshed, while Chaka soars over what is one of the diamonds of her extensive catalogue. Pure class.
If you’ve been following the label you will know that only the biggest of Disco reworks are released on Le Edits. Extra-special versions of classics, all lovingly re-touched and mixed from the reels and master tapes each time – fully sanctioned and created in conjunction with the artists, rights holders. 100% official and (to be fair) essential.
Le Edit is here to bring back some quality and class to the re-edit game by doing things, once and for all, properly and respectfully. No re-press guaranteed (even through they know that the demand is likely to outweigh the amount that is being pressed).
Utilising the highest end tip-on heavy duty sleeves, and outer protective sleeves, pressed onto 100% virgin vinyl.
These new mixes have been legitimately commissioned and will not be available digitally! The press release says “this product cost 4 times as much to produce than your average Disco edit 12” because Le Edits believe in quality first and foremost.
Review:
With demand through the roof before this was even released, and only 1000 copies reported to have been pressed worldwide, this will probably be the hottest record to come out in 2020.
As with other Le Edits records, there was a mad scrabble for this record. Distributors had to limit shops and stores to a small amount each to at least attempt a fair distribution. It seems nowhere got anywhere near the amount they ordered. Ourselves included. The big record shops sold out in a matter of hours and prices quickly escalated on Discogs with the asking price peaking at £100 the day after it was released!
Dimitri himself has explained he wants the people that own this record to have something special they can treasure. He has also explained that due to licencing restrictions there will be no repress of this record. Ever. It’s what we call a buy on sight record. Full clips in the player.
