TORIBIO: Esa Montana Se Movera (feat Joaquin Joe Claussell mix) (UK EXCLUSIVE)
12″: Most Excellent Unltd/MXU 007
House /
Listen: http://www.juno.co.uk/products/toribio-esa-montana-se-movera/641676-01/
Sales Notes: Toribio is Cesar Toribio, a Dominican American living in Brooklyn by way of Tampa, Florida. He’s an alumni of Berklee’s School of Music, and recorded “My Dear” in his college dorm room in 2011. It’s difficult for me to find the words to express how proud I am to be releasing out his first recorded works. Especially in a physical form. The music is honest, vulnerable, and exposes parts of his personality that even those who are fortunate to know him, have never seen before. “Esa Montana se Movera” contains 4 tracks – 3 original songs on Side A, and a 10+ minute remix from Joaquin “Joe” Claussell, a long admired hero of Cesar’s, on the flip.

AIKEN: Inertia
12″: Chronicle/EVENT 0015
Techno /
Listen: http://www.juno.co.uk/products/aiken-inertia/641652-01/
Sales Notes: Aiken’s much anticipated return to Chronicle. The Spanish artist has been spending years honing his craft, focusing on sharp, distinct sounds that create a pure sense of kinetic energy. The title track of the EP bolsters a erce disarray of carefully (de)constructed atonal synthwork and a rhythm section that is set to detonate. It is then followed by “Axial”, a track that stays as true to modular miscalculations as it does to stripped down techno, combining both in a subliminal cessation of sanity. However Aiken isn’t done there. He continues with “Magnetism”, which throws a brick in the glass of conventionality with its earth-shaking layers of textured momentum. Phased pads then wash over “Soul Drama”, bringing the entire experience to an emotionally laced denouement. After the potency of his last record on Chronicle as well as his releases on imprints such as his own label Timeline and the Spanish powerhouse Semantica, Inertia marks a de nitive step forward for an already exceptionally de ned
artist.

MORK: Absolute Cosmic Principles
2xLP limited to 100 copies: Pregnant Void Italy/PV 001
Techno/Electronic/Dub /
Listen: http://www.juno.co.uk/products/mork-absolute-cosmic-principles/638756-01/
Sales Notes: Pregnant Void is a new division of Out-ER focussing on contemporary electroacoustic music, mean to imply advanced theoretical considerations and cultural projects as publications, books and seminars. The first outlet sees Italian duo Mørk offering ‘Absolute Cosmic Principles’ double LP, composed by Emanuele Pertoldi aka Shaded Explorer – professor of sound engineering in North of Italy – and Francesco Devincenti, Italian artist known for the fact he has been building homemade synthesizers. ‘Absolute Cosmic Principles’ was born taking inspiration from a common thought Mørk astronauts always followed. Music has power, it can lead you to metaphorically anywhere, also to another planet, or to the Moon. Moon, like music, has been present in every culture. Like a tie accompanying the evolution of human kind, it makes us understand we have always been united by common surroundings and influences.

Tommy Four Seven’s eponymous imprint returns with more bleak and dystopian techno tools of industrial strength grade. Featuring the always ferocious Ancient Methods and the wonky drones of “System”, Berlin duo Oake hypnotise you into submission as always with their esoteric imaginary soundtrack entitled “Anaxamines” before Italian producer VSK delivers the EPs finest moment on the rather Surgeon sounding broken techno stomper “Breaking Symmetry”. The man himself T47 closes this fine EP out with the shredding body bash of “Dromod” that’s mangled up amongst metallic textures, grinding sub bass and generous servings of clipped distortion; business as usual!

House/Techno /
Listen: http://www.juno.co.uk/products/dj-jus-ed-jus-nomaly-2/629789-01/
Ed’s back: Jus Ed that is! The Underground Quality boss and Connecticut’s finest serves up some deep and emotive house done good and proper on his new opus Jus Nomaly 2. It’s a collection of all things soulful. lo-fi and above all: deep! Starting off with the tough dark house of “Benny’s Dump Run” which would definitely make his buddy DJ Qu proud, it gets more ethereal and spiritual on the entrancing “Adams Street 78”, but things take a turn for the acid techno variety on the gutsy and intense soul searcher “The Phone Call”. “Step In The Right Direction” gives its nod to the blueprint sounds of Detroit on this sublime serving of hi-tech soul circa 1988. Following up some great releases by Howie B, Terry Tester and B from E, the label head honcho himself shows us how its done on this great full length exploring a variety of moods and grooves.

Sales Notes: It’s a brave artist who takes on the task of remixing what many would regard as a true ‘Classic’ record. Especially when said track holds it’s own personal memories, having played it’s part in shaping their own musical path.Green boss Joris Voorn has taken the plunge, by lending his skills to reworking ‘Mengs Theme’, a true Dutch techno classic from Secret Cinema’s former alter ego, Point Blank.

ae Recordings the infamous sublabel of Thule Records was responsible for some of the finest techno releases from Iceland in the early 2000s. With the motherlabel on full throttle it was ideal to revive the enigmatic junior label as well. The label was known for bringing in fresh winds into the scene and this release doesn’t stray away from the concept at all. The veteran Icelandic producer Cold has been missing from the scene since his legendary release Strobe Light Network in 1995 a track that kickstarted the Thule franchise and was at one point the closing track for the epic Love Parade festival in Berlin. After more than 20 years of hiatus, we are happy to announce that he is back and with a vengeance. Exiles EP is a hard-hitter & should be essential for DJs who aren’t afraid to venture into the unknown. ae Recordings/Thule Records is considered by many to be a pioneers in the field of dub-influenced techno music and was a starting point for many of Iceland’s most renowned electronic musicians”

Our first release on is/was comes courtesy of Detroit’s own Dwayne Jensen. For those in the know, Dwayne requires no introduction. This 4 tracker sees Dwayne in top form with 3 straight ahead, swung and stabby house tracks and 1 slow burner for the after hours.

Kalita Records are extremely proud to announce their first release, the three choice cuts from NST Cophie’s 1980 private press Ivory Coast Afro-disco album ‘Mon’Da Center’. After moving to Paris in 1976 and having played with other well-known bands such as N’Bamina, Osibisa, and with numerous artists including Jimmy Hyacinthe and Papa Wemba, ‘Mon’Da Center’ was Ernest’s first solo album. Recorded at Studio Caroline in Paris’s 20th sector over the space of one week, this self-funded ultra-rare album regularly exchanges hands for eye-watering prices. Pretty much unknown except to the most hardened of diggers, ‘Bian Kou’, ‘E Clolo’ and ‘Mioukouna’ are guaranteed to set any dance floor alight, with hypnotic Afro-disco grooves, killer drums and angelic female vocals. We hope that you love the tracks as much as we do, and invite you to join us in celebrating the musical world of NST Cophie’s, all on glorious 180 gram vinyl! After the widespread success of the first Minimal Vision compilation on the resurgent Vibraphone Recordings, The True Underground Sound Of Rome return with a second volume that takes in tracks made over a 23 year period. What comes across is how consistent the sound is, whenever an individual jam was made. The same heavy-lidded melodics and easy-funking rhythm sections prevail across all nine cuts here, at times hitting the uplifting pace of “Vertigo” or heading into the meditative pastures of “Sea Bird”, but always maintaining that quintessential Vibraphone feeling. The diggers will be happy to snag the reissued tracks as well as discovering completely fresh material from Rome’s premier deep house institution.

Each of these records featured 4 tracks cut at 45rpm to create a true play-at-your-own-speed adventure. As Emotional Rescue continues to deliver the goods for those who love discofied rarities from the 70s and 80s, here comes this EP from Kevin Harrison, originally released in 1982 and worth a pretty penny second hand. It’s a wistful, proggy kind of groove that finds Harrison’s voice lost in an alien phaser while the live band feel gels with synthesiser parts for a fluid kind of cosmic goodness. There’s simply no arguing with the plush melodic wonderment of “Views Of The Rhine”, while “Fly” is the jam the party DJs will reach for, not least for its slinky bassline. Amazing.

With just one 7″ release to their name in the form of the 1981 release, Jive Baby On A Saturday Night, the cult of The Jellies was possibly accidentally assured with the long lost song being rediscovered by collectors and championed by Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore no less. Picked up and reissued by the stellar Trunk Records in 2010, the B-side cut, however, was sadly overlooked. Now Emotional Rescue are proud to license The Conversation and remaster it especially for this rerelease. Based around a simple drum and bass rhythm, interspersed with crowd noise, playful female vocal yelps and sprinkled with dub effects thrown in to the mix and you wouldn’t probably think too much would be going for a track that the band put together in the last two hours of their studio time after Jive Baby had been completed. However, what you get is a killer gem of pop-punk-dub oddness that gets your head nodding to its infectious, repetitive rhythm laden with effects. With just this one (perfect) track available for license it seemed only right to hand it over to the in-house production team, Apophenia, to do their increasingly trademark dubbed out reworking, this time in the form of a true, but respectful “Version” for the flip. With both members of The Jellies sadly now living overseas this piece of early ’80s British dub as it were, can now be fully treasured for posterity while also, proving a nice little smokers delight.

REPRESS ALERT: Parrish Smith’s debut of dystopic forbidding sets the tone of this label’s impressive first release with a superb stark, acid ridden slab of body music. Helena Hauff adds to the proceedings with her remix of Pankow’s”Das Vodkalied” taking no prisoners and using heavy percussion in contrast to a wonderfully tense set of arpeggiations, which all descend into skull crushing pressure. Carrying over to the flip side are Pankow, pioneers of the Italian Industrial/EBM scene, with two tracks from their legendary first tape “Throw Out Rite” from 1983. With “Das Vodkalied” disembodied vocals are cut up and come from every direction driven by a raw, off-kilter energy and pounding beat. “I’m Food For You” cranks up the drive and anxiety to create a killer track based around stark arpeggiation. Last of all, Perseus Traxx provides an acidic stripped down venting of frustrations which he spits out with vehemence.

This time around the tracks come from releases on Wiggle and Wrong, and they sound like they haven’t aged one bit. “Pleasures & Treasure” is an upfront tech house burner steeped in 909 drums and dubby synth tones, while “Ni-Cd Deluxe” works up a nagging line in emotive electro. “Spannered In Dub” may well be the track that gets the most airings with its minimal disposition, strong rhythm section and utterly addictive groove.

REPRESS ALERT: Australia is known for its Sydney Opera House, Great Barrier Reef, the vast desert wilderness and unique animal species including kangaroos and duck-billed platypuses; but is also known for its well-crafted music output and deep love for optimistic sensual tunes. This is the case here with the first release of a mysterious project called Ponzu Island, there is absolutely no info available on the artist, so let your ears judge without prejudice. His first effort comes in the form of a 3 track EP including “Super Koto”, “Ponzu Beach” and “Ponzu Logic”, they sound like if Morgan Geist and Todd Terje took some acid and locked themselves in a room with a sea view, a synth, and a computer. Welcome to Ponzu Island. To complete the EP the label counted with Andras Fox, another Aussie who has already gained much respect for his simply-perfect micro house productions (btw don’t miss his live set if you ever have the chance). Andras revisits the track “Super Koto” in the form of an extended mix with a slower bpm and his magic touch here and there. On the flip side Apersonal’s local producer Trujillo does his usual thing remixing “Ponzu Logic”, closing the EP into a deep and darker territory. By now you will be in the middle in the desert asking yourself how you got there..

With a compulsive passion for the dying art of crate-digging combined with a love for modern synthesis techniques the now Sweden based OCH manages to put together a 12″ that could easily be described as psychedelic Chicago. “Whalesong” is a pulsating floor work-out which references the US greats whilst building an emotive sub-aqua soundscape. “Blind is The Wind” follows with a sneaky chord driven spoken interlude which creates an air of tension before climaxing into “Last Chance Saloon”.

Two versions are included: the original 7″ version, driven along by a razor-sharp guitar riff and sweetly lamenting lyrics, topped off with weird cosmic synths and galloping rhythm. However, the real gem is the edit entitled “Wild It’s Broken” which sharpens the focus of the guitar and adds some serious kick to the drums to create a beefy counterpart to the new age original.

REPRESS ALERT: Arriving at the mythical 23rd release is a time for contemplation. A chance to abandon the structures, guidelines and ethos of what has gone and do something different and fun. Here then is the apt titled 2 Late 4 Love EP from young Roy. To fit, the aesthetic of the label is abandoned for a sparse black + white hand stamped sleeves, limited one off pressing and congenial smiley on our faces. Afterall, everything starts with a 303… One of the pleasures of running a label is the connections made, people met, artists worked with and also, opportunities it brings. To overcome ego is an unachievable life long challenge, so to work with others and bring the light their way is to seek some redemption. of a darkened soul. Newcastleis Acid Waxa label has been bubbling away for years, putting out limited cassettes for the (acid) heads. Star of the show. Player of the year. Roy Of The Ravers !! Himself mythical beyond time. Here on new adventures in the search for love. The title track comes in versions of snap electro percussives, dream-laden pads, all twinned with an ethereal otherness via contorting 303 melodies. Star of the piece Emotinium is itself a homage of a homage. Replays not yet banned, this is space-age dance music for the mind and body that goes beyond being bounced around via some Melchester Acid (anyone?). Crunching, tough, primordial, a return to our source. All together an EP celebration of the TB-303 at its finest. All this still links to the Emotional family via a meeting of minds. REPRESS ALERT: This time on transparent vinyl. Amsterdam dwelling editor par excellence Em Vee took the solo reigns on the inaugural Lumberjacks In Hell – and truly excelled with a great reimagination of “Miss You”. The second release on the label sees the German share duties with Spanish edit demon Rayko, with the Rare Wiri boss hogging the A Side. First up is an expert rearrangement of Candi Staton’s cover of the Bee Gee’s standard “Nights On Broadway” which strips the track of its orchestral leanings to focus on the groove! Following this is a meaty take on a classic, with Barbara Keith’s cover of “All Along The Watchtower” reinforced with some bottom end bump. Em Vee spreads a special disco version of Alma Lee’s late 70s Philly delight “Gimme Your Love” with an extended intro that fully displays his edit talents.

After kicking off with a delightfully classy deep house EP from Chicago’s Strong Souls, D3 Elements presents its second EP from Brian Harden. This long anticipated EP is reminiscent of his upbeat, melodic style that is his trademark after releases on Relief Records, Underground Therapy, NiteLife Collective, Moods And Groove and House 4 Life records. The Black 3 EP opens with “Qunu”, a rhythmic homage to South Africa’s Nelson Mandela. A complex piece filled with tribal percussions and vibrant melodic sounds that will keep you dancing. “Qunu” creates an addictive rhythm of warmth and color. “Days of Days” is a euphoric affair with lush chords, enticing percussions with a rising bass line. Light and airy with a compelling groove, it’s a masterful example of genuine house. “Chicago To Detroit” closes out the release and lives up to it’s title, touching on what makes house music from the two Mid West cities so very compelling.

REPRESS ALERT : After landing his malfunctioning PX-4000 on the purple planet, Captain DMX steps out of the smoldering cockpit. After barely setting foot on the dusty landscape, the Captain is startled by deep thudding from over the hills. Dragging his oxygen pack with one hand and his atomizer with the other, he sets off in search of the other-wordly din. Over the hill his pupils adjust to the stroboscopic lightning and below him lies a sea of strange creatures moving together as one body. A cosmic sermon takes place under the three suns in the sky, mechanical and stuttered frequencies set a manic pace and drive the dark creatures back and forth. Captain DMX sighs a heavy breath and starts to descend into the fray….

Sharif Laffrey’s epic masterpiece is finally available! Sharif Laffrey has been playing all over the place for 20 long hard years. Born in Detroit, Michigan – he’s worked on The Line & at Submerge, toured asia with Juan Atkins and once had to chase a grown man through the streets at night after the man crawled into his living room through an open window. *He* was also once chased by a man with a knife. An active member in Detroit’s early rave scene he still lives with the fear that one day someone will develop the 8mm film that was taken during some of those nights and put it on youtube. Sharif remembers booking all international gigs exclusively with something he calls a “Fax Machine” – He says there was “no internet” then. He also had a beeper (pager) and drove a Trans-Am. Not ironically. “I like Acid House.” Sharif Laffrey realeased TURN IT UP on Discos Capablanca to massive praise, he is dealing with The Fame since then.

Our first release on is/was comes courtesy of Detroit’s own Dwayne Jensen. For those in the know, Dwayne requires no introduction. He’s equally accomplished in the studio with releases on KMS, Dockside, Landed and his own Fathom Records imprint. This 4 tracker sees Dwayne in top form with 3 straight ahead, swung and stabby house tracks and 1 slow burner for the after hours.

The second installment of Micronesia is a finely variegated five-tracker to lure the senses. LK delivers his signature deepness embedded in a mesmerizing blend of beats and bass, while Shanahan & Lynch make their debut with Ask, an intricate and downreaching cut to sooth the soul. On the flip side, Duijn & Douglas break the ice with Remarkster, a hypnotic and yet pulsating jam that unsettles head and feet. Next, Omar Santis presents Like buttah on yo breakfast toast, an invigorating tune that builds up to bliss, before VGAV ends the journey with a delicately woven joint to set the mind adrift.

To the untrained ear a collaboration between Mosaic boss Steve O’Sullivan and minimal house maestro Ricardo Villalobos may not seem like the most obvious sound clash. However, dig a little deeper and you’ll find that both these artists have a long history and shared love of stripped back aesthetics and dubbed out rhythms carving out respective sounds that have never strayed far from their roots. Sullric is the result of a daylong session at the end of 2016 where the pair plugged in, switched on and set everything to cycle: recording several hours’ worth of material to tape with an edit of their favourite passage worked into two versions in post-production. As you’d expect from anything Villalobos turns his hands to, the sound palette is fully laden with dreamy tinges of warped audio, pulsating synthesis and psychedelic tinges that are as equal as they are diverse never failing to surprise. O’Sullivan’s input shines through in the rhythmic feel and the application of effects throughout, holding the entire track together as they hit on a moment that truly captures the spirit of joint electronic enterprise. The Side A edit totals 10 mins and leads with lighter touch hat work that evolves in layers and builds, focusing more on the bass edged tones and vocals that envelope the senses throughout: the use of meditative gongs and a large stringed breakdown cutting through the mix to maximum effect. Side B, titled the deeper dub, stretches over 12 mins and is slightly denser in feel as the rhythmic chug is brought to the fore – driving the track into a sparser territory that gives more ground and emphasis to the breakdowns when they drop. Either way, if you’re seeking some heavy beats with weird shit on top look no further.

The Silverlining Dubs series marches on with this set of three rare remixes by the South Londoner. The A-side features Silverlining’s outright monster of a dub of The Inhabitants’ “The Truth and a Lie” with Jayson Walker of vocals; followed by the warm baseline heavy groove of “G-Spot by” Tokyo’s Dog with The Groove Lights; and on the flip, a whole side dedicated to his highly sought-after remix of The Mingers. Together this cooks up one swirling broth of straight up underground house music with sprinklings, in equal measures, of intellect and party spirit!

The first release on our was / is sublabel, Glyph03 was intially set for release in 2002 on Charles Noel’s (aka Archetype) 21/22 Corporation. This was slated to be the 4th in his Glyph series, a raw and freaked out exercise in pumping, tweaked-out midwest techno. Each of these records featured 4 tracks cut at 45rpm to create a true play-at-your-own-speed adventure. Since their release, the original Glyph 12″”s have become timeless tools in the bags of the most respected techno jocks. We are happy to say that after a 15 years hiatus the drought is over. Stay tuned for more from Archetype, Glyph and 21/22 Corporation on was / is. EP release date: 1 April 2017

(Deep House)

Todd Terje has yet to release the original version of “Jungelknugen”, but he’s decided to release these remixes anyway. It makes sense: as you’d expect, both are top notch. Four Tet handles the A-side, delivering a version rich in Italian dream house style pianos, swirling synthesizer chords, jazzy musical touches, analogue bass and the kind of live-and-loose beats that the veteran prodicer has become famous for. It even boasts a rush-inducing breakdown for those 6AM “Scandolearic” moments. On the flip, Terje’s old pal Prins Thomas takes the track in a different direction, fusing Terje’s piano motifs with bleep style sub-bass, psychedelic electronics, and some swinging disco beats of his own.

Sales Notes: The talented Italian producers Pietro Caprioglio aka Autre and Federico Pedron aka Xinner kicking it off with „Nebula“. An emotional piece of late night techno music full of analog warmth and heart warming depth. Autre´s „Seiryu“ is an athmospheric and loopy groove monster for the deeper dancefloors. Dresden´s Kryptic Universe delivers with „01309 Stairways“ one of those georgeous and simply perfect analogue sounding dub techno tracks. Incredibly textured piece of work wich could have been already a classic since the golden basic channel / chain reaction years. Owen Jay and Brian James closing it up with „chordless“. This is a mind blowing take of chord driven club material.

In the fourth Modern Cathedrals release, Altstadt Echo crafts three original works with a focus on experimentation with broken beat structures and grainy percussive texture, against a backdrop of austere atmospheres. Varg contributes a remix that emphasizes the despairing tones of “The Descent,” contrasted with glistening treble percussion and and stumbling bass. To end the release, Evigt Mörker offers an extended hypnotic version of the track that slowly develops from a functional framework into an atmospheric drift. The thematic aspects of the release follow the development of Modern Cathedrals as a label, expressing existentialist themes centered around the search for meaning in a life that forbids it. The label art features photographs of the beautiful remains of one of Detroit’s many unused churches.

Machinegewehr tells a tale of interstellar love with his third EP for Bordello A Parigi, The Cordyceps. Four glimmering works make up this star crossed story of electro disco. The listener is wrapped in warmth from the outset with the sweetened vocals and clean synths of the title piece. “Shivergold”, with its lush pads and arpeggios, pulls you to the floor before the pulsating grooves of “Knight 634” take hold. The final embrace comes with the soothing sounds of “A Girl You Know”. A lost romance from distant world, a kiss goodbye.

Having previously impressed for Burek and Five Fold separately, Berlin based italian duo Autre and Two Thou teamed up for a split record on Croatian Fields & Forests imprint. The record showcases a nice combination of eclectic rhythms, funky basses and spacey solos but despite its club signature and retro-futuristic vibe, Solar Society is still more of a cosmic porch burner rather than a dancefloor banger.

Dysphoria I Euphoria” project, French duo Kas:st is back with Chapter 2 of this two double EPs, signed on their label Flyance records : four original tracks coming with four remixes from artists such as Detroit DJ and producer Luke Hess, Setaoc Mass, signed on Work Them and Figure to name a few, Anetha, Blocaus’ resident, and AWB, one of Taapion label’s owner. In addition to this release, three digital tracks will be available in free download.

James HADFIELD
Buried Answers (140 gram vinyl 12″) £TBA
Not An Animal (NAAR007)
(Disco/Nu-Disco)

NAAR continues to show its pedigree for hybrid music with James Hadfield’s (1 half of Lizards) freshman release on the label straddling the lines between Techno Drive & Cinematic Pathos on the track “Buried Answers” then coming at it from all angles into the frankly unhinged cut “Literate”. Tiago Manages to change the vibe yet keep the spirit of the original as he pours some acid onto his freeform remix of Literate, while Jamie Blanco’s remix of Buried Answers sees him channeling 80s New Wave Proto House sounds to amazing effect with an opus that sounds equal parts New Order and Severed Heads.

POST SCRIPTUM
Year Zero EP (180 gram vinyl 12″)
Post Scriptum (PS000) £TBA
(Techno)

It is already possible to find works signed by Post Scriptum in discographies of well respected labels for quite a sometime. This undoubtedly confirms it’s value. “Year Zero” is a first release on Post Scriptum’s own label and in a sense it is a manifesto defining it’s musical identity. No space here for a sound targeting the current techno mainstream. There is dirt, and the pinch of imperfections, very characteristic of avant-garde electronics and industrial well known for the quite nearby past. On the A side, there are compositions appearing like shutters from experiments conducted in the secret laboratory. The rhythm is giving the appropriate weight, while the rest is a musical conglomerate of sounds and synthesis building up a feeling of anxiety. A swarming energy, a modulation, an uncertainty and lurking somewhere danger are surrounding us. On the flip side are remixes constituting the lighter counterpunch. Motor eurhythmics bringing to life the old good Detroit techno definitely of a dance-floor character, making this material ideal for an interesting set.

Al BRADLEY
Night Owl (140 gram vinyl 12″)
3am (TAM089)
(Deep House)

After 3am Recordings’ return to 12′ in March 2016, which straight into the Juno Deep House Top 10, it’s time for label boss Al Bradley to unleash his own 12″. The original of Night Owl has been working like a charm – a deep & bass-heavy affair, coming on like Franck Roger or Djebali wearing their slightly more chunky-vibed studio hats (or something…..). Pressed For Time main dude Goshawk, tweaks his remix taking the cue from the original bass into key-led deepness, with added percussion elements & warm vibes ago-go. Fellow 3am geezer Michael Scott takes a real diversion & strips things right back in freaky trippy minimal style, reworking the vibe of the track completely. Closing the 12″, fourfourfour heads into Berlin electronic territory, shifting the focus to the main percussive section & coming out with a massively powerful yet stripped back beast of a remix. Serious damage incoming….

GEMIL
Forces & Gravity (140 gram vinyl 12″)
Vibraphone (VIBR011)
(Deep House)

Ensuring they keep things pushing forwards while also celebrating their past, Vibraphone call upon rising talent Gemil to deliver an EP that is purely fresh material. “Forces & Gravity” is perfectly honed to get the maximum response from the dance with its muscular production and catchy vocal sample, but if you want an even more focused affair the remix strips things down to the bare necessities and works just as effectively. On the B side “Horizon” gets a touch more playful in its synth work with interplaying riffs creating a dazzling whole, and then “Solar Storm” brings the heads-down, hard-swinging heaviness into the mix in a devastating finishing blow.

Owen JAY / MELCHIOR SULTANA
Star Gazing EP (140 gram vinyl 12″)
Contrast Wax (CW 011)
(Deep House)

CW011 see’s the very welcomed return of Owen Jay & Melchior sultana with a spacey & Soulful, 3 track EP. Anyone familiar with the Maltese duo will have some preconception of what’s in store, Soulful, Emotive music, rolling basslines, soft pads & subtle keys throughout. The lead track “”Star Gazing”” is built around the talents of “”Alfred Debattista”” on a beautifully played sax, layered with soft pads & piano keys, perfect for the afterhours. “”Bubbles floating in the Sky”” Leans More towards the early hours, 4/4 beat patterns, warm pads & Skippy hats & the very present influence of Melchior on keys. & finally, “”Saturn”” Aimed at the Dance floor, a real head nodder, the signature warm pads flutter over a punchy kick drum & rolling baseline & skipping hi-hats, this is really the sound that has came to define Contrast-Wax. A solid 3 track EP.

(Deep House)

Brassica’s turn for Vivod in 2017 see’s him on top form following his release on feel my bicep late last year. We then have a u turn with splash, more of a new age type track but still with that unmistakable Brassica touch. On the flip Nothing to say is an unsettled beast with horror vibes and things are rounded off with title track Blue Function, a more laid back shroom opus. VARIOUS
Stollwerck Single (40 gram 7″)
Emotional Rescue (ERC 044)
(Balearic/Downtempo)

Emotional Rescue presents a limited edition 7 with two songs that while not featuring on the Stollwerck Sampler reissue (ERC026), make a unique piece together as they are focused around the legendary drumming of Jaki Liebezeit. Coming out of the European Free Jazz movement of the mid-60s, by the end of decade Liebezeit had moved towards psychedelic realms of rock and alongside Irmin Schmidt, Holger Czukay, Michael Karoli and David C. Johnson formed the pioneering ‘Krautrock’ band, Can, in 1968. His unique half-man, half machine metronome style was integral to the band’s development and success throughout the following decade, a centre-piece to their sound as they became acclaimed international stars. With the slow hiatus that engulfed Can in 1980 each member went on to work on new projects. For Leibezeit, this saw him team up with guitarist Dominik Von Senger to form Phantom Band. Releasing just 3 albums, each are highly regarded, encompassing an extension of latter-day Can’s funky-jazz fusion with metronomic rock and experimenting with African rhythms. Out of this came the Von Senger led Dunkelziffer (ERC007/8/9), all centered around the warehouse art spaces of Stollwerck. When the recordings for a special Sampler album bought together various artists and bands based in the space it was logical that Liebezeit would be heavily involved. The Sampler’s LP collage of post-punk, krautrock, dub and avant-garde music saw many unusual collaborations and for this limited 7 we present two such pieces, including the first ever recording of his drum ensemble, Drums Off Chaos. First, Phantom Band team up with the unknown Linear Johnson & The Protons. A mixture of krautrock meets 50s USA rock’n’roll delivery makes for a wondefully odd combination, but the interplay between drums and Von Senger’s guitar marry with R&B vocals to jovial perfection. On the flip, here then are the beginnings of Liebezeit’s Drums Off Chaos. Some 5 minutes of pure drumming explosions, this unique recording was not followed up for a further 20 years and is therefore, a special document in a comprehensive music career.

SAD CITY
Forma (100 gram vinyl 10″)
Emotional Response (ERS 029)
(Ambient/Drone)

More than simple out-takes, these 3 pieces formed their own unique setting and were deliberately separated as the recording process came to a close and often appeared in his recent live shows. A conscious decision was made that this ‘set’ should appear together and therefore, represent a link between what has gone before and what lies ahead. From the first looped vocal / stuttering percussion that works across the ambience of Music Removed, a deeper compulsion is apparent. Cascading spoken samples and introspection that drift, swirl and merge infinitely. Patterns follows, embedding a love of the fourth world with melancholic yearnings that rise and fall as a quickly as memories. Vexillations completes the piece. Intense percussion and sensuous chime loops create distance to previous work. Modulating and meditative, an almost architectural structure appears from the dense sequencing and reverberations. What forms Gary Caruth will explore next are unclear, but the existential wonder of his mysterious sound-scapes and tone make for a celestial journey.

Mor ELIAN
Echopark (140 gram vinyl 12″)
Finale Sessions (FSL 004)
(Techno)

We at Finale Sessions are excited to have Mor Elians added to the Finale Sessions family . Mor is one of the younger generation artists that we have been keeping our eye on for sometime now. Hailing from Tel Aviv and now living in Los Angeles and Berlin and now travelling the world bringing her style of forward thinking House and Techno so let’s get with the music and we start with the track ” The Orionids ” one of my favorites of the ep with it’s bouncing drums and the industrial flexing pads and the filtering synth’s that give it the deepness for day’s . Then we move to the second track ” Light Pollution ” Another proper deep rendering if I may add and those high hats that just move the track into the proper scenic vibe, very minimal but to the point with the pads just poking its head out to go forth with the flow of the vocal . Last but not least we have “Echopark”this track closes out the ep with its very bouncy acid sounds and it’s minimalistic drum patterns makes for a very melodic sound ….We at Finale Sessions want to thank you from the bottoms of our hearts and we love you very much

TAKECHA
A Tale Of Shiga (140 gram vinyl 12″)
HHATRI (History Has A Tendency To Repeat Itself) (HHATRI 005)
(Deep House)

The next set of the Japanese musical tales on Hhatri’s imprint comes from Takecha (aka Takeshi Fukushima), a producer who has played a part in creating some of the seminal pieces of house music that have originated from Japan. His music is characterised by the perfect marriage of experimentation and emotional content. For those that know, Takecha’s first EP ‘Kind of Deep’ released on his own imprint, GWM records, in 1995 is a secret gem among Japanese House music collectors. Only 100 copies were ever available and it is a subtle reminder of what and how Deep House should sound like. Takecha provides no less in A Tale of Shiga; four gorgeous tracks that provide some insight into his own creative, albeit humble genius in his approach to producing music. Fresh off the press are three previously unreleased tracks with the addition of “”Freak Out”” released in 1998. TIP!

MR C
Stand Up (180 gram vinyl 12″)
Superfreq (SFQ 014)
(Minimal/Tech House)

Superfreq kicks off the New Year with Stand Up, the first single of three from Mr.C’s forthcoming album Incidents. How Mr.C has found time to present an acid masterclass while touring the world, throwing events & running a label is testament to his passion. Stand Up is a politically motivated rebellious song that takes issue with the way nightclubs the world over have been closed down due to the financial greed of property developers at the expense of our beloved dance music community. This track is a call for the dance music community to stand up & unite against the continued aggressive affront on electronic dance music culture. From Mr.C’s electro, ska & acid inspired radio mix, to his Club Dub, to Jay Haze’s slow acid house, to Tripwire’s modern take on acid, to Omid 16B’s retro acid house, the single really does show why acid house is back with a vengeance with Superfreq leading the field.

Incidents is about things that can happen while clubbing. Down-tempo tracks Entry Search, A Civil Dose & Quick Exit will dub you out. Slightly quicker Acid Fever & Stand Up will completely groove you & dance tracks Do It For Me, Disco Rebellion, Shape Your Dreams, Raid, Ripple Effect & Master Of The Universe will make you dance like no-one’s watching. Incidents is the complete electronic album that pulls all the punches, gives a nod to the past & yet has it’s feet firmly embedded in the future. P SOL
Heavy Frequencies EP (180 gram vinyl 12″)
Whiskey Pickle (WPW 003)
(Disco/Nu-Disco)

NYC based producer and head honcho of the (in)famous, Wall Of Fame, label, makes the trek to Texas for Whiskey Pickle Records “third shot” on their new minted vinyl series. His groovy brand of sampled house and disco has leant classy tracks to many a release on his home turf, but its rare that the beat smith venture into uncharted territories with his prized compositions. The folks at Whiskey Pickle must have liqoured up the ole boy up in order to finagle such a delightful EP out of him, and thankfully, us boppers are to benefit! “Water,” the A1 opener kicks off with some chunky drums and an uptempo chug as layers of percussion and dancefloor onomonpea’s create a bed for the piano driven groove to unfold… a scorcher! Move inward for “Don’t Wanna Be” and the tempo drops dramatically. A hypnotic, looped beat gets a syrupy bass riff and cavernous funk-claps until the gorgeous, mono-synth lines appear and carry us to utter ecstasy! Flip it over for “Moods,” a track that is as lovely and emotional as it’s title suggests. The vibes sampling and superlative drum programming create an exceptional, dreamy frame work for the groover… perfect for opening sets or a much needed, dancefloor breather. Lastly, ” Your Dance” snips some familiar territory into a perfect energy builder with beefed up muscles, perfect for modern heads. Watch out for the mighty horn stabs and flanger flourishes, they’re gonna prove to be DEADLY!

A-side kicks off with lekker Dutch producer Levi Verspeek, who has had numerous critically acclaimed releases on labels such as Apollonia, Raum Musik and RUIS, just to name a few. His track ‘256’ takes you on a deep dancing journey. It has a certain attitude about it that coupled with a rolling bass line carries you through to the end, creating the perfect vibe for the dance floor. A2 gives you newcomer Peshka from Ukraine. With his unique sound, his track ‘Miracle’ is a sophisticated and delicate minimal masterpiece, with strange vocal samples that make it perfect for those early morning sets. On the flip side, Lyssna hands the reigns back to their own heroes. B1 ‘Steff Off’ by Flord King gives you a mellow and housy ride with dreamy chords and a jazzy bass line that pays homage to his musical background. With B2 ‘HM 2016’, Adam Stromstedt makes sure his hypnotic sounds are being heard. Fine violins, breaking glass and his signature sampling methods make for a heady musical trip into his unusual mind.

36
Tomorrow’s Explorers (12″ + download code limited to 250 copies)
3six Recordings (3SIXEP 003)
(Ambient/Drone)

We’re living in a unique time in history. Most of our planet has already been traversed and catalogued by people who have come before us. Earth, at least from a geographical perspective, has few discoveries left for us. The true unknown lies in the worlds beyond our own. It’s likely that in the next few decades, humans will finally have the means to take our first tentative steps on the surface of our neighbouring planet, Mars. We will be the first known species that has both the knowledge and the desire to transcend our existence beyond our home planet and expand further into space. There may even be people alive today whose children will be born on a planet that isn’t called Earth. For them, the concept of “home” has a very different meaning to our own. They will be Tomorrow’s Explorers, redefining what it means to be human, whilst retaining the very thing that makes us so – our unquenchable thirst to explore the unknown. “Tomorrow’s Explorers is the follow-up to my 2015 EP ‘Sine Dust’. Usually when I finish a record, I draw a line under it and move onto the next concept, with the explicit desire to do something different. After ‘Sine Dust’, I felt that there was more of a story to tell. Space is a pretty big place! Whereas ‘Sine Dust’ was a 100% synthesiser-based record, ‘Tomorrow’s Explorers’ expands the sound gamut considerably, introducing heavy string-based sections, that work alongside the synths and pads to create expansive, enveloping walls of sound. This culminates in the 13 minute title track, which I feel is one of my most audibly rich, melodically complex tracks to date. Drawing influence from every other record I’ve made, whilst taking the sound to new and unfamiliar places, ‘Tomorrow’s Explorers’ is sure to please fans both old and new. The endless themes of space have been explored countless times by artists in the past. It’s a limitless source of inspiration for many of us and always a joy to discover. As usual, I hope you enjoy where it takes you.” -36
